Our first month of trading has been very busy, having totally underestimated the potential interest in our concept, we have been pleasantly surprised with the positive response it has received, not only from our original target base but from all spheres of fundraising.
What has developed? Apart from the worsening economic climate and all the bad news that comes with the subject.
We have found that in the Charity and Cause Related Fundraising sectors there are many good and hardworking people, most of them never appear in award ceremonies but deserve praise, so thank you everyone.
Almost every day, someone we are in contact with will say something along the line of, “I know a Charity that would benefit from your assistance” or ” you should speak to my friend who fundraises for This Charity” And so we find even more nice people to work with. If you know someone we ought to talk to , Tell Nick
Oh, the tears. Not a major setback, in fact, not a setback at all really, more of a timely reminder that looking ahead is just as important as controlling the day to day functions of a web presence.
Our existing web server had been quite stable with a very impressive up time and good email ticket help system in place, up ’till last friday when a Wiki Shop crawler decided it was our turn, without notice and during our usual waking hours our server was bombarded with requests to the point it could no longer cope, apart from the disturbance it gave us, our potential customers were inconvenienced and innocent victims that host on other parts of the server we’re using. So here was our lesson learned, host to a level over any predicted requirement and be prepared for sudden spikes in traffic, from almost any direction.
It’s probably quite clear from the way I write that I’m not the most technically able person, but I know that robots can be requested not to crawl your site, they don’t always pay any attention to that request.
We are about to reconfigure to host with WebFusion, I will keep a post open and hope I don’t have to reuse the title of this post in future.
